Our Nitro TSDF facility plays a key role in receiving, processing, and properly managing these fluid streams on behalf of our oilfield, midstream, and industrial customers. We are looking for a dependable, safety-focused Tank Farm Operator to join our operations team.

Position Summary

The Tank Farm Operator is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient day-to-day operation of tank farm systems at the Nitro TSDF, including receiving, transferring, storing, and processing E&P exempt midstream production fluids, non-hazardous industrial wastewater, used oil, and used antifreeze. This role requires close attention to safety and environmental compliance, accurate recordkeeping, and effective coordination with drivers, lab personnel, and facility management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor tank farm equipment, including pumps, valves, manifolds, piping, tanks, and separators, in accordance with facility procedures.
  • Receive incoming loads from trucks and other transport, verify shipping papers/manifests against actual product, and confirm the fluid stream matches the assigned tank prior to offloading.
  • Safely load and offload vacuum trucks, tankers, and other vehicles, following DOT, company, and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Collect samples and perform basic field testing (e.g., BS&W, pH, specific gravity) to confirm fluid characteristics and compatibility before transfer or storage.
  • Monitor tank levels, temperatures, and pressures; gauge tanks and maintain accurate, real-time inventory records.
  • Operate and monitor water/oil separation, filtration, and treatment systems used to process incoming fluid streams.
  • Conduct routine visual inspections of tanks, secondary containment, piping, valves, and pumps to identify leaks, corrosion, or equipment wear, and report deficiencies promptly.
  • Maintain accurate, complete logs of receipts, transfers, treatment activities, outbound shipments, and inventory in accordance with facility recordkeeping and permit requirements.
  • Follow all applicable environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) regulations, as well as company policies and site-specific SOPs.
  • Respond to spills, leaks, or other releases in accordance with the facility's Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan and emergency response procedures.
  • Perform general housekeeping, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on tank farm equipment; assist maintenance staff with larger repair projects as needed.
  • Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts or skid steers as required and as certified.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with drivers, dispatch, laboratory staff, and supervisors regarding load status, scheduling, and any operational issues.
  • Support the facility's TSDF permit compliance through accurate documentation and adherence to approved operating procedures.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and emergency response drills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facility Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3+ years of experience in a tank farm, terminal, oilfield, produced water, wastewater treatment, or other industrial operations environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling requirements is a plus.
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification preferred, or willingness to obtain within a specified period after hire.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL (Class A or B) is a plus but not required.
  • Forklift certification a plus, or willingness to obtain.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, including the ability to safely operate valves, pumps, and hose connections.
  • Ability to read and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS), shipping manifests, and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and respond calmly in emergency situations.
  • Reliable attendance and willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call as needed.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs and to work at heights, including on top of storage tanks.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and flame-resistant (FR) clothing, and a respirator when required.
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors in an industrial tank farm setting and may involve exposure to noise, odors, chemicals, dust, and varying temperature and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to alarms or emergency conditions.
